To map a network drive so it is available in My Computer or This PC:
In Windows:
- Right-click on the This PC icon and choose Map network drive.
- Choose a letter for the drive, usually starting with F:.
- Enter the drive and optionally the folder with two backslashes at the beginning, e.g. \\falcon\fileserv.
- Optionally, you can click the Browse button to browse to it.
An alternate method is open File Explorer > right-click on Network > choose Map network drive and follow the steps above.
To make a network location, which is similar but different and sometimes needed for software like Framemaker to have a non-named (lettered drive) network location, do this:
- Right-click on This PC > Add a network location.
- Click Next > (Choose a custom network location) > Next.
- In the box, specify the location of the share/network location or webserver share, e.g. \\falcon\fileserv.
- Click Next.
- Type a name or leave the name as is.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
